Recipes of the Month - Exotic Summertime Drinks

Just in time for summer sipping - an assortment of exotic drinks to share with friends and family.  These are based on recipes found in the Spring 2010 issue of WineCrafter Magazine.

You have wine – you have choice. I have not tried all these recipes so would appreciate your feedback and comments.

Wines of the Month: Red, White or the Daze® Collection

You Have Red Wine – You have Choice

Bishop: 3 0unces red wine, 2 ounces lemon juice, 2 – 4 tsp sugar.  Shake with ice.  Serve in chilled glass.

Little Eva: 2 ounces red wine, ¼ ounce triple sec, 1 tsp lime or lemon juice.  Pour over ice.  Stir.  Add 4 ounces of a lemon lime soda.

Manhattan Cooler: Combine 3 ounces red wine, 1 ounce dark rum, and 2 tsp sugar in a tall glass.  Stir to dissolve sugar.  Add a thin spiral of orange rind, ice and ½ cup club soda.

Wine Collins: squeeze juice of ½ lemon into Collins glass, add 4ounces red wine. Add ice cubes and 4 ounces sparkling water.  Garnish with lemon.

 

You Have White Wine – You have Choice

Kir: Pour ¾ ounce Crème de Cassis into wine glass.  Fill with white wine.  Garnish with a twist of lemon.  It’s called Kir Royale if your white wine is ‘Champagne’.

French Curve: Pour 4 ounces chilled white wine, 1 tsp Per nod, and 1 tsp maraschino liqueur into large wine glass.  Add ice cubes.  Stir.  Add lemon and/or orange slices.

Spritzer:  fill a glass ¾ full of white wine, add ice and top with club soda.Vesuvius: Stir together 3 ounces white wine, 1 tsp apricot liqueur, 1 tsp amaretto, and ice.  Strain into wine glass. Garnish with a slice of cucumber.

Berry Cooler: In blender puree 2 cups berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) with 1/3 cup sugar and a bottle of chilled white wine.  Pour through sieve into pitcher.  Chill. Can be made as much as 4 hours ahead.  Serve over ice.

Mimosa: Fill champagne glass ¼ full of a favorite juice, top with a sparkling wine.

 

You Have Wine from the Daze® Collection - More Choices.

Melonball: Mix 8 ounces of your Daze® wine, 1 ounce melon liqueur and 1 ounce vodka with ice.

Twist: 4 ounces Daze® wine, 4 ounces juice, 1 ounce gin served with ice and garnished with lime.

Applause: 4 ounces Daze® wine, and 2 ounces apple juice.  This should get your day off to a good start!

Summer Fields: In wine glass combine 4 ounces Daze® wine, 1 ounce schnapps or brandy.  Stir.  Add a fruit or berry garnish.

Bubbles: 3 ounces Daze® wine, 2 ounces ginger ale, on ice.
