Art of Brewing Ltd
A year ago, owners Maureen Millar and Art Lindala took possession of a house and acreage in South Wellington. Soon construction started on a shop which would house the U-Vint/U-Brew business which previously had been located in Cedar.
"In keeping with the architecture of the house, we decided to build a Spanish mission-style building," said Maureen. We chose to make the business earth-friendly and have done this with recycling, composting, and the introduction of a state-of-the-art ozone generating system which sanitizes equipment and customer's bottles without the use of chemicals."
They have a comprehensive inventory of wines from which to chose, and because they guarantee your satisfaction with the product, you can relax and leave the work to the knowledgeable staff. In a few weeks you'll be back in bottling your wine. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
Find them at 2510 South Wellington Road, backed onto the EagleQuest Golf Course.

Art of Brewing nails three medals
By Goody Niosi
NANAIMO – Art of Brewing Ltd (at the Mission) Proves that on-site wine making can be of the highest quality.
Art Lindala and his wife Maureen Millar, Owners of Art of brewing, recently entered six wines in the largest amateur wine competition in the world hosted by WineMaker Magazine. The competition drew 4321 inter-
national entries in 200+ categories. Art of Brewing walked away with one gold and two bronze medals. “I am awfully impressed,” Lindala says. “We got into it because we were asked last year by Cellar Craft, one of our suppliers, to do that because it would be good for us.”
At the very worst, the supplier said, they would receive notes from the judges that would let them see how they compared, and where there faults lay. Lindala notes that last year they had been too busy to enter but this year they took the chance. In May they were informed that they had received Gold for their Austrian Zweigelt, a bold red, and a Bronze for a two latitudes merlot and for the Sparkling white Shiraz. “We were overwhelmed to hear that we had won anything,” Lindala says, “Then to hear we had won three out of six, which was amazing. And we didn’t even attend. We weren’t there to bribe the judges.”
He notes that the winning Zweigelt and Shiraz are available for customers to make. The Merlot was a limited Edition, but a wine very similar can also be made at Art of Brewing.

Brewmasters win medals at
wine-making competition
by Krista Clarke
Local brewmasters Art Lindala and Maureen Millar found the right mix. The owners of the Art of Brewing Ltd at The Mission on South Wellington Rd won one gold and two bronze medals at the 2008 Winemaker International Amateur Wine Competition in Vermont on Friday. The wine competition was the largest of its kind in North America, with 4,32 1 entries from around the world.
Hobby winemakers from six different countries sent in their wine to be judged on appearance, aroma, taste, aftertaste, and overall impression in 50 different categories. Out of 203 entries, Lindala and Millar captured a gold rating under the other Red Vinifera category with their full bodied Austrian Zwiegelt. Theirsparkling White Shiraz 2007 and Two Latitudes Merlot soaked up two bronze medals. The awards add a little zest to the duo's hard work.
"It's very exciting" said Millar. "This is a whole new venture for us", a whole new beginning." Lindala and Millar celebrated the grand opening of Art of Brewing in April, so to receive accolades and notoriety this soon is a welcome surprise. "It's been a great learning experience; said Millar. "We've learned a few things on how to improve on what we have."rtofbrewing.com where you can sign on for their monthly newsletter.
Man with a mission
by Lynn Welburn
After many successful years in the construction equipment industry, Art Lindala decided on a change of pace.
He took an online beer brewing course from the World brewing Academy in Munich, Germany, and bought a u-brew shop in Cedar. But as the business grew rapidly, and since he and his wife, Maureen, were thinking of moving, they wound up joining their home and business. "We had wanted something along the lines of a country winery," Lindala says.
"The house we bought (which backs on to Eagle Quest Golf Course) was very Spanish in style so when we decided to build the shop, we continued with that style," Lindala says.
And thus was born Art of Brewing at the Mission, which is celebrating its grand opening tall this month.
"The idea had been in our minds for some time, but here we found the property and everything that just fit perfectly," he says. "We started construction of the ship in September and we are now in business and doing great."
They also got a local artisan to create a fountain to give the property a mission courtyard look and are still working on landscaping which they hope will continue the ambiance and work well with the open country vistas of the property.
The shop includes space for 800 carboys and has six filling stations to allow many people to fill their bottles in any given day.
Face of Business
Art of Brewing
Art of Brewing is moving. Art and Maureen were excited to find the perfect place where they can build a Spanish-style mission for their U-Vint/U-Brew building. It's on an acre backing onto Eaglequest Golf Course. You might want to drive by and check our their progress at 2510 South Wellington Road. At the time of writing this, clearing of land, and the excavation were complete; footing were poured and the forms for the mission were going up.
"We have a terrific team working together to get the shop up and running on the site. Even the weather has cooperated - we might meet the targeted November opening."
In the meantime, Art, Maureen and a capable staff continue to help you make your favorite wines, beers, ciders and coolers, as well as those all natural non-alcoholic sparklers. Art and Maureen remind you that now is the time to start the wines and champagne-style wines you'll want for the holiday season. www.artofbrewing.com
