Our new "Spanish Mission" style premise
located between Nanaimo and Ladysmith
About Us
Art of Brewing and Winemaking
Art of Brewing is an ‘on premise’ wine and beer-making company dedicated to helping Nanaimo and Ladysmith residents make their choice of beers, ciders, coolers and wines. We are located in a rural area between Nanaimo and Ladysmith on Vancouver Island, about as close to paradise as you’ll find here on earth.
Art of Brewing began in a small shop in Cedar, which we quickly outgrew. In the Fall of 2007, we began to erect an entirely new premise, built to our needs, on acreage that backed onto Eaglequest Golf Course. We opened the doors to our “Spanish Mission” styled shop the following Spring.
Our customers tell us our place has a ‘feel good atmosphere’ and enjoy working with us to craft a wide variety of beverages at reasonable prices. The process is easy, fun and satisfying.

About the Owners
Art Lindala and Maureen Millar
Art was born and raised in northern Ontario, but also lived in the interior of BC and Texas before he found himself on Vancouver Island and knew he’d found home. He spent many years of his life in sales, the food industry, and the construction equipment business before deciding on a change of career which led him to the ‘on premise’ wine and beer making.
With training through the World Brewing Academy in Germany, more courses through Chicago’s Siebel Institute and an apprenticeship in a U-Brew/U-Vint, he was ready to open doors to a shop of his own.
Maureen is a coast-gal, born and raised in south western BC. She spent the first years of her life living in a float house off northern Vancouver Island’s coast where her schooling came all the way from Victoria in brown envelopes.
Before settling down for 20+ years teaching in the Comox Valley, Maureen taught all over, including a spell in London England. A few years ago, Maureen met Art and began a new life in the Nanaimo/Ladysmith area teaching people about the joys of crafting your own beers, wines, coolers and ciders.
