About Us
Art of Brewing and Winemaking
Art of Brewing is an ‘on premise’ wine and beer-making company dedicated to helping Nanaimo, Ladysmith & Chemainus residents make their choice of beers, ciders, coolers, champagne and wines. We are located in a new light industrial facility in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island, about as close to paradise as you’ll find here on earth.
Art of Brewing began in a small shop in Cedar, which we quickly outgrew. In the Fall of 2007, we began to erect an entirely new premise, built to our needs, on acreage that backed onto Eaglequest Golf Course. We opened the doors to our “Spanish Mission” styled shop the following Spring.
Now in 2011, to serve our clients better, we've relocated to the Heritage Business Park in the Beautiful Town of Ladysmith. Come in to see our new facility at #9 - 1156 Rocky Creek Road or call us at 250-245-0077.
Our customers tell us our place has a ‘feel good atmosphere’ and enjoy working with us to craft a wide variety of beverages at reasonable prices. The process is easy, fun and satisfying.
About the Owner
Art Lindala
Art was born and raised in and around Sudbury Ontario, experimenting with various "Sudbury Saturday Night" beverages but then also lived in Toronto, Texas, the interior of BC and Vancouver before he found himself on Vancouver Island and knew he’d found his home. He spent many years of his life in the service industries, the food industry, and the construction equipment business before deciding on a change of career which led him to the ‘on premise’ wine and beer making.
With training and a certificate from the World Brewing Academy in Munich Germany, more courses through Chicago’s Siebel Institute and an apprenticeship in a U-Brew/U-Vint, he was ready to open doors to a shop of his own.
About the Business Today!
We call it “Kicking it up a Notch”! At least that’s what we feel we’ve done at our “boutique style” Craft Winery/Brewery in Ladysmith. We have taken a business which is licensed under the British Columbia Liquor Board as a U/Brew-U/Vint and added several enhancements to give it its “Personal Craft Winery/Brewery” atmosphere. That combined with our attention to detail & quality “Kicks it up a notch” (or two, four or more).
Besides winning the hearts and confidence of many people who have had the opportunity to discover us, we also have won several medals and awards for our many styles of wine, champagne, port, sherry, ice wine, cider and beer over the last few years. We have also just recently been selected as the ‘Best of the City of Nanaimo 2010’ place to make wine.
Our medals & awards have come from wine and beer competitions throughout North America from places such as California, Oregon, Vermont and various competitions on Vancouver Island, BC Provincials and medals from the Canadian National Amateur Competitions held in Ontario on September 11th, 2010, from which we garnered four Silver & two Bronze and according to our future plans, “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”
Our belief is that what we needed to do with this business was to definitely “Kick it up a Notch” to win back the interest and confidence of many people who had tried making their own wine & beer in the past at several ubrew/uvint shops but were disappointed for one reason or another.
According to statistics the general interest in wine, globally, is increasing dramatically and we would like to be positioned to provide the Vancouver Island population a place to learn more about what is available and to have the opportunity to create custom wines & beer to individual tastes from fruit, kits, juice, grains, honey, flowers, whatever is desired and available.
Many people, we find, just want to learn more about different grape varietals, wine growing areas of the world (such as our very own Vancouver Wine Islands), wine etiquette, wine and food pairing, wine culture or as some people call it wine geekism and we would like to teach them as much as we possibly can.
If you would like to learn more contact us by email at brewit@artofbrewing.com or call 250-245-0077.
CHEERS.
